How to play
LocalMatal is a slow, collaborative chain of places. Every entry is a single photo and a short description. Each new description has to connect — in feeling, image, or idea — with the one before it.
The chain
The home page always shows the current place at the front of the chain. Use ← previous place and next place → to walk the whole chain from any point. Every place has its own permalink you can share.
Adding your place
- Choose a photo. Take or upload a photo of a real place you love. It can be anywhere — a street corner, a mountain, a room. The photo is cropped and compressed automatically; originals are never stored.
- Write a short description. Tell us why this place moves you. The description has to share at least one feeling, image, or idea with the current place at the top of the chain. If it doesn't connect, you'll get a nudge and a chance to revise.
- Pin it on the map. Drop a marker near your place. The exact coordinates are fuzzed before display, so no precise location is ever shown publicly.
- Submit. Your entry goes into a moderation queue. Once approved it joins the chain and becomes the new current place.
What gets approved
- Real places — somewhere you can actually stand.
- A short, honest description — not a list, not an ad, not a caption.
- A photo you took or have the right to share.
- Content that is kind, legal, and safe for all audiences.
What doesn't
- Stock photos, AI-generated images, or screenshots.
- Descriptions that don't connect to the previous entry.
- Commercial promotion or spam.
- Anything harmful, hateful, or private (faces, addresses, etc.).
Privacy
Your name (or pseudonym) and photo are public once approved. No account is required. If you want an entry removed, use the report link on any place page and explain your request — we'll handle it promptly.
